Kiefer has released Memory Bomb, the pianist and Producer’s debut for Blue Note Records which he produced with his longtime collaborators Shibo and Carrtoons.
The album features contributions from Nate Smith, Walter Smith III, Cisco Swank, Erick The Architect, Tony Stone, Planet Giza, Relyae, Rae Khalil, Amber Navran of Moonchild, and more.
Kiefer discussed the album with Blue Note President Don Was on the latest episode of “First Look.”
Kiefer works in the space between Jazz improvisation and Hip-Hop beat-making. His distinctive musical style, which he calls “Over The Breaks” pushes further than ever before on Memory Bomb.
Kiefer is a great believer in embracing new influences and new styles by way of collaboration with others and that’s why he got his two best friends, Carrtoons and Shibo, to co-produce the album with him. This mindset of collaboration extended to the inclusion of vocalists, rappers and musicians on the rest of the album, too.
The album title Memory Bomb, for Kiefer, is a poetic way of saying “A Dream”. For Kiefer, there are three types of dream, “the sort you experience when you sleep, the wishful longing type, and the ambitious type – and those themes populate the direction of some, if not all of the songs on this album.”
On Oct. 1, Kiefer kicks off a Fall tour that that will bring him across North America and Asia.
