Grammy-nominated trio Midland and Orville Peck have shared a Roy Orbison-evoking collaboration, “The Hurtin’ Kind,” out now on Peck’s new duets album Stampede Vol. 1 from Warner Records.

The song, which the artists debuted live aboard Midland’s The Last Resort Cruise last month, was written by Orville Peck, Leland, Ryan Raines, Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson.

Midlands says:

Orville Peck is a dear friend of ours and it’s an honor to be on this song with him. We had a great time debuting ‘The Hurtin’ Kind’ live with Orville on our Last Resort Cruise last month. He’s an incredible performer and singer and y’all are in for it with this one.

Fresh off the heels of the maiden voyage of The Last Resort Cruise, Midland are in the midst of wrapping up their Up In Texas headline tour followed by a performance at the Big As Texas Festival on Sunday, May 12.

Throughout the summer, the band will hit the road for a series of headline shows including the L.A. County Fair and a return to Fort Worth, TX honky tonk Billy Bob’s for a two-night stand on June 21 and 22. The trio will also make a handful of festival appearances including The Bluebird Music Festival, Boots and Hearts Music Festival and Born & Raised.

Next month, the band will release a cover of Tom Petty’s “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” on the compilation album Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty (out June 21 via Big Machine Records).
