The Ballroom Thieves, made up of duo Martin Earley and Calin Peters, have just released their album Clouds, which openly reflects on the allure and the difficulties of the touring life. After a major car accident, the onset of the pandemic, and the departure of a band member, the remaining duo have been establishing a new normal.
They say:
We were able to step away from a lot of the big three-part harmonies and for the first time we recorded most of the album live. We try to let change inspire us, even when it comes with difficulty.
Their openness often colors their work, for instance their struggles with depression and their clear statement that talking about mental health is not a weakness. The band is currently on tour and will be performing at Newport Folk Festival next weekend.
