Darryl Jenifer, who is the bassist, songwriter, and founding member of Hardcore band Bad Brains, has released his new instrumental album, The Weather Channel, out now via Org Music on LP, CD, and in digital formats.

Arriving more than four decades after Jenifer helped expand Punk with Bad Brains, The Weather Channel finds him melding exploratory Jazz, Fusion, Dub, Psychedelia, and Funk. One of the album’s tracks, “Re-Ignition II,” revisits a Bad Brains song originally written by Jenifer, recasting it in an instrumental setting. Rather than simply recreating the original, “Re-Ignition II” approaches the composition from a new perspective.

The Weather Channel follows Jenifer’s 2010 solo debut, In Search of Black Judas, and features a quartet consisting of Jenifer, drummer and percussionist Ben Perowsky, guitarist Karma “Chogyi” Marco, and keyboardist John Medeski.

Across 11 tracks, the album presents nine original compositions alongside new interpretations of two Bad Brains songs. Punk energy and dub-heavy rhythms remain part of Jenifer’s musical vocabulary, but here they are “woven into adventurous ensemble performances shaped by spontaneity, atmosphere, and rhythmic exploration.”

Previously released singles “Sacred Love II” and “Loves Harmony” offered early glimpses into the album’s sound. “Loves Harmony” features melodica from the late Jazz legend Jack DeJohnette and string arrangements by composer and educator Karl Berger.
