Charlie Worsham’s ‘Once Upon A Second Time Around’ Delves Into The Many Kinds Of Relationships We Carry In Life

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Charlie Worsham has announced his new solo album, Once Upon A Second Time Around, which is due out on August 7th, 2026. Marking his first full-length album as an independent artist, Once Upon A Second Time Around, finds Worsham “reflecting on two decades in Nashville and the life he’s built along the way.”

Along with the album announcement, Worsham has released the single “Powers That Be.” The song introduces listeners to the record’s “central theme of self-awareness, authenticity, and perspective.”

Worsham blends Country, Bluegrass, and Southern Rock on the track and it “celebrates the finding of contentment in the life you’ve already built rather than continuing to chase what’s next.”

Worsham says about the track:

‘Powers That Be’ takes my Rock and Roll influence to the next level. I modeled the dynamic shift from verse to chorus after my favorite Led Zeppelin track, ‘Ramble On.’ And you might hear a Jimi Hendrix lick or two in the solo. I joke that ‘Powers That Be’ is my hillbilly version of the Stones’ ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want.’ Cause if you try sometimes, you do get what you need.

The album was recorded at multiple studios that included Sound Emporium, Sony Tree Studio A, Pinebox Studios, Querencia Sound, and The House. The album was created alongside a trusted circle of collaborators that included percussionist Jerry Roe, bassist Rich Brinsfield, guitarist Kris Donegan, co-producer Jaren Johnston, and executive producer Josh Van Valkenburg. Their goal was to craft “a record that prioritizes musicianship, storytelling, and authenticity over trends and expectations.”

Worsham says of the album:

At its core, Once Upon A Second Time Around is an album about relationships. It’s about my relationship as a husband and father and adult son. It’s about my relationship to an ever-changing industry. It’s about my relationship to longtime friends and mentors. And it’s about my relationship to my younger self.

Worsham has penned songs recorded by artists including Kenny Chesney, Luke Combs, and Dierks Bentley. He has also performed at the Grand Ole Opry and worked in the studio with artists like Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves, Ella Langley, Max McNown and Carrie Underwood.

The album also features singer/songwriter and guitarist Stephen Wilson Jr., who co-wrote “Years Go By” and is featured on the song with Worsham, as well as beloved Bluegrass band the Travelin’ McCourys, whose fiddle playing by Jason Carter is heard on “Wrap My Porch Around (featuring the Travelin’ McCourys).”
