Axel Flóvent’s ‘Fleeing The Shore’ EP Captures The Sounds Of Home In Húsavík, Northern Iceland

Icelandic Alt-Pop artist Axel Flóvent has released new EP, Fleeing The Shore, out now via Nettwerk. With Fleeing the Shore, Axel recorded alone in his home in Húsavík, Iceland, with “a sense of simplicity.” This was a departure from previous approached.

The EP traces “change, self-isolation, and solitude”, capturing the feeling of returning to a “new-old” place by returning to his hometown. By developing the songs in the same room where they were written, he creates music “rooted in the stillness of home.” The song and video for “In The Grass” are also out now.

Fleeing the Shore is also the first collection of songs Axel has fully Produced by himself in his home studio.

Axel shares:

If I had to choose three words to describe this EP, they would be change, self-isolation, and solitude. These songs explore different forms of change, changes of the mind, of place, and a longing for transformation in general.

I isolated myself while writing and recording these songs. I tend to do that anyway, but usually I’ve had the privilege of working with amazing producers who take my ideas to another space and time. With this project, though, I wanted to keep the songs in the same room they were written, to make everything feel a little more naked, closer to the core.

Axel Flóvent is an Icelandic indie-folk artist from the northern town of Húsavík, where he recently returned after years in Reykjavík and abroad.
