NYC singer/songwriter Theo Kandel has announced his forthcoming project, Somewhere Along the Trail, Vol. 2, a three-song EP arriving on June 13, 2025 via Nettwerk Music Group. Along with the news of the EP comes a cover of Richard Thompson’s “1952 Vincent Black Lightning.”
Kandel says about the EP:
Every two years, I aim to put out a triplet of songs – recorded live, just me and my guitar – that I wouldn’t want to produce any other way.
With album #2 in the works already, I wanted to make sure nobody forgets about my sweet fingerpicking and the pureness of a simple song.
Speaking about the cover single, Kandel says:
I’ve been playing it for many, many years, and every time I’d whip it out, someone would tell me I should release it. So here it is! An incredible, heartbreaking song, written by the one and only Richard Thompson. I’ve put my own little spin on it while trying to maintain the magic of the original (and trying to play it with as much jeuje as Mr. Thompson).

Kandel has also announced a headline tour dates across the US with support from Katie Lynne Sharbaugh, including stops in Nashville, Charlotte, Carrboro, Decatur, DC, Philadelphia, Cambridge, Night Club 101 in New York City, and a special show across the pond this July at The Forge in London.
