Chris Farren Gives In To Morbid Curiosity On “Cause Of Death”

Los Angeles based songwriter and Power-Pop artist Chris Farren has revealed new single Cause of Death. The song is described as sunny Indie Rock but has “contrasting lyrics that touch on themes of finality, fatality, and dread.” It balances hope with self-deprecation.

Chris Farren says:

“Cause of Death” is about that morbid curiosity we all have (..right??) anytime there’s news of a death but the cause is left ambiguous. It’s a weird, kind of gross, voyeuristic tendency that I’m embarrassed about, but can’t seem to shake. Writing this song was an attempt to work through those thoughts and ideas. And it worked and I’m cured.

The new standalone single is supported by contributing musicians Lexi McCoy-Caso and G Leonardo of Suzie True (Get Better Records) on backing vocals alongside Chris Farren’s drummer and touring sidekick Frankie Impastato.

It follows his most recent full length album, 2023’s Doom Singer, Produced by songwriter and fellow Polyvinyl labelmate, Melina Duterte (Jay Som, boygenius).

Next week, Chris Farren will embark on a two-week tour supported by Maura Weaver and Polyvinyl labelmate Elise Okusami’s Oceanator.

Beginning Wednesday May 7th in NYC, the tour will traverse the Northeast, heading towards the Midwest and up into Canada for dates in Toronto and a culminating performance at Pouzza Fest in Montreal. Later this October, Farren will perform at The FEST in his home state of Florida.
