Craft Recordings has announced the vinyl debut of The Best of Ronnie Milsap from six-time Grammy winning artist, Ronnie Milsap. The 12-track collection features “I Wouldn’t Have Missed It for the World,” “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me,” and “Smoky Mountain Rain“, among others.
The collection spotlights Milsap’s accomplishments in the ’70s and ’80s that crossed over between Country charts and other types of contemporary music. Arriving November 1st, 2024 The Best of Ronnie Milsap can be found on classic black vinyl as well as a limited-edition “Tan Smoke” pressing, available exclusively to Milsap’s Spotify followers through Fans First.
A native of North Carolina, the singer and pianist began his career in R&B, scoring his first hit in 1965. Relocating to Memphis, Milsap established himself in the city’s rich music scene, working as a session player (appearing, most famously, on Elvis Presley’s “Kentucky Rain” and “Don’t Cry Daddy”), performing regularly on the club circuit, and releasing his self-titled debut in 1971.
A chance encounter with Country artist Charley Pride altered the direction of Milsap’s career. Pride urged Milsap to relocate to Nashville and try his hand at Country music. Pride’s instincts proved correct, as Milsap’s entrée into the genre, 1973’s “I Hate You,” was a Top Ten hit on Billboard’s Country chart.
Milsap’s profile skyrocketed in the latter half of the decade, as he released seven consecutive No.1 hits on the Country chart between 1976 and 1978. Milsap dominated the Country charts with ten consecutive No.1 hits between 1980 and 1982. His legacy has only continued to grow.
