Indie Pop singer Maris has released a new single, the ballad “Chameleon”, and is taking to the road on tour with a number of dates coming up alongside the indie band Melt. The new track addresses the “challenges of change and the struggle to adapt to a new life.”
Maris says:
I wrote ‘Chameleon’ with Ian Walsh during one of my lowest points where I wanted to change everything about myself. Living in Los Angeles has been a battle, especially in the arena of self-comparison. There’s a lot of beautiful, rich, successful people here, and if you’re not one of them, you’re trying to be. It can be incredibly heavy. I used to be so proud of being a chameleon, someone who can adapt to any room and anything. Now, I think that adaptability is valuable, but I want to focus on being steady in myself.
In 2023, Maris released a six-song EP, Gravity, and accompanying short film, Gravity: The EP: the Movie (Black House, Best Friends Music), followed by new singles, “Voicemail,” “Hot Guitar Player,” and “GOING YET!.” She supported the releases throughout opening for acts including Anna Of The North and The Wrecks. She also performed at Boston Calling and Missoula Pride earlier this summer.
Maris’ goal as a live performer is that she “that ensures all in attendance are in a safe place to be their happiest, truest, and most out-of-this-world selves.”
