Abraham Alexander Finds A Personal Connection Covering “Where We Are” By The Lumineers

Singer/songwriter Abraham Alexander, who recently toured with The Lumineers, has covered their song “Where We Are” off of their latest studio album, Brightside, for very personal and emotional reasons. He also did so through discussion with and support from The Lumineers.

Abraham Alexander explains:

While touring Europe with The Lumineers, I had the privilege of hearing the deeper meaning behind their song “Where We Are.” The story of their car crash and survival resonated deeply with me, but in a different way.

I experienced the devastation of a car crash, and I lost someone I deeply loved. Their survival reminded me of my own loss, yet also spoke to the resilience we find in the aftermath of tragedy.

Being back in Europe, just miles from my birthplace, while celebrating the release and birth of my debut album, felt like a full circle moment, one of reflection and healing.

It gave me the chance to honor both the pain of my past and the gratitude for how far I’ve come. “Where We Are” became more than just a song to me; it became a reminder that, even through loss, things can and will eventually be okay.

I’m deeply thankful to Wesley and Jeremiah for allowing me to put my own interpretation on their song and giving me the space to make it my own.

Born in Greece to parents of Nigerian descent, Abraham Alexander moved to Texas with his family at age 11, determined to escape the racial tensions they faced in Athens. His lyrics “speak to pain and trauma and life-changing loss,” but he also brings to his music “a joyful passion and irrepressible spirit.”
