Joy Clark’s “One Step In The Right Direction” Counts Every Step As Progress

New Orleans singer/songwriter/guitarist Joy Clark has released “One Step in the Right Direction,” a new track from her debut album, Tell it to the Wind, which arrives on October 4th, 2024 on Righteous Babe Records. Clark brings to her music the perspective of a proud, queer, Black woman and blends Folk, the rhythms of Southeast Louisiana, and the Soul-centered music of her childhood.

“One Step in the Right Direction” symbolizes “the choice and strength to move forward, even when you feel stuck in life.”

Clark shares:

Feeling behind in the timing of life is a very common yet difficult experience. I’m finding a more helpful perspective. Every step, no matter how small or delayed it may seem, is progress. Release the doubts, regrets and fears, and enjoy the ride.

After kicking off the Evanston Folk Festival on “The Music of Tracy Chapman” Tribute show on September 6th, Clark has numerous festival and headline shows on the calendar. She performs at AmericanaFest in Nashville on September 19th at the Outlaw Queer Country event and on September 20th at Chickie Wah Wah: New Orleans to Nashville.

Clark’s album release show is October 5th at the Dew Drop Inn in New Orleans.

Clark teamed up with one of her musical heroes, Producer Margaret Becker, to record Tell it to the Wind at Righteous Babe Studios in New Orleans. Special guests on the album include Lisa Coleman (Wendy & Lisa), Kyshona and numerous feted New Orleans musicians.
