North Carolina-based Power Pop and Rock ‘n Roll band The Eyebrows have taken a unique approach to their new album, Double Take, in recording and mixing the songs on their albums in two different ways. When they couldn’t decide on a recording schedule at Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium Studio, he suggested that they try recording themselves. They ended up doing both things, recording themselves, and later with Mitch Easter.
The trio’s third album presents the music that was tracked and mixed in two very different ways. Side One features polished studio tracks recorded and mixed by Mitch Easter. Side Two was tracked at The Eyebrows’ practice space, and it was produced and mixed by the band’s primary singer-songwriter Jay Garrigan with resultant rough-and-ready feel like early R.E.M. songs. The single “Say Yeah!” is out now.
The entire album was mastered by Bill Skibbe (Jack White, The Kills, The Black Keys) at Third Man Mastering in Nashville, TN.
The lead single “Say Yeah!” is a “celebration of those times when you need an energetic friend to nudge you towards a good time.”
The song was inspired by the ’80s movie, Heavy Metal, and its soundtrack, which resonated with Jay Garrigan’s 11-year-old self. The lyrics deviate from Garrigan’s more introspective style, and embody a “call to action, urging you to let go of whatever holds you back.”
He explains:
It’s about shedding inhibitions and embracing the experience.
