Seattle, WA-based supergroup Painted Shield have returned to announce the details of their forthcoming LP, Painted Shield 3, due for release July 26, 2024 via Loosegroove Records. The band have also shared the album’s lead single, “Transector.”

The new track serves as the follow-up to last year’s “Blue Crystal” single, and acting as a hint of what’s on the horizon from the band.

Describing their upcoming album, Mason Jennings says:

The evolution of Painted Shield has been very fun and exciting. Each album has pushed the boundaries of genre farther and Painted Shield 3 is our most expansive and collaborative album yet. I feel like this is the sound of a band really finding our legs and emerging. The sky is the limit. Painted Shield 3 is a musical universe unto itself. Very excited to share it!

Speaking on the song “Transector,” the band’s Stone Gossard says:

Three records in and Painted Shield keeps flipping the script and morphing in real time. How’d I get so lucky to be able to work with these four talented, adventurous artists, including our producer Josh Evans? This song inhabits some 80s throwback portion of our psyches, and highlights the dual vocal artistry of both Mason and Brittany. I love how this song started as a single guitar riff and kept growing, as more layers and points of view were added. It’s a beaut.

Additionally, the band recently announced that they will be headlining a show in Seattle, WA on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Paramount Theatre, as part of Loosegroove Records Presents: A Loosegroove Revue, alongside performances from The Brittany Davis Band, Mason Jennings, Jonny Polonsky and Zoser. Stone Gossard will serve as emcee of the evening.

Painted Shield combines the talents of Pearl Jam co-founder Stone Gossard, folksinger Mason Jennings, drummer Matt Chamberlain, Soul innovator Brittany Davis, and guitarist Jeff Fielder. Painted Shield was released on Gossard’s newly reactivated Loosegroove label, which had released the debut Queens of the Stone Age album back in 1998.
