Bozeman, Montana based Americana-influenced Bluegrass outfit Kitchen Dwellers have announced new studio album Seven Devils, due out March 1, 2024, and shared a first taste. The album’s title track, “Seven Devils (Limbo)”, is out now along with an official music video.
The band has also revealed the first two cities in their “Seven Devils 7 Cities” Tour which will kick off on May 21 with two nights in Buena Vista, CO at The LAWN at Surf Hotel, followed by three nights at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Bellevue, CO.
About the single, guitarist Max Davies says:
The name ‘Seven Devils’ is something I found throughout our travels as a band. Not only are there several places in the Carolinas that hold this namesake, but also along the Northwest Pacific coast as well. Even beyond this is the ‘Seven Devils’ mountain range, located in western Idaho along the Snake River. Not only is this name found in many places, but it appears to also come from many sources. Some are Biblical in nature – i.e. the seven demons cast out of Mary Magdalene – while others hold Native American origins. The lyrics of the song pull reference from all of these stories.

Inspired by Dante’s voyage through the Nine Circles of Hell, Seven Devils guides the listener through a similar exploration. Each track represents one of the Seven Deadly Sins, while others draw inspiration from The Divine Comedy for a “musical descent into the abyss.” The Dwellers invite the listener to treat this experience as “a musical journey inward – to the self.”
The album was recorded at GBP Studios in East Lansing, Michigan and was recorded, Produced, mixed, and mastered by Grammy winner Glenn Brown (Billy Strings, Greensky Bluegrass).
Davies says:
We knew going into this project that we wanted to work with someone that was really going to push us. Glenn has a way of working the music out of you in a way that is all his own – creating songs out of nothing. Many tunes on this record were written as a result of improvising and trying out different ideas.
Each song contains a piece from everyone in the band. Every tune on the record holds musical ideas from each one of us. For this reason, we think it sounds the most like us that any record has.
The quartet consists of Shawn Swain (Mandolin), Torrin Daniels (banjo), Joe Funk (upright bass), and Max Davies (acoustic guitar.)
They will be continuing their nationwide tour starting at the end of November and rolling into 2024 including their recently announced Colorado dates in May that are a part of their “Seven Devils Seven Cities” album tour.
