Venice Beach, CA instrumental Psych Rock duo Movie Club have had a busy fifth year, headlining a national tour, and now launching an August Monday night residency at Hollywood Rock venue Harvard & Stone, which kicks off tonight, August 7th, 2023.
In conjunction with announcing their residency, Movie Club have also revealed “Thresher”, their 2nd single of the year, alongside a video. They are also now showing off the cover art for their forthcoming sophomore LP Great White, which arrives this Fall, featuring shark jaws and their “rainbow all-inclusive hibiscus flower logo.”
Although drummer Jessamyn Violet and guitarist Vince Cuneo have traditionally operated as a duo, but they are very interested in the “power of collaboration” and always feature other instrumentalists on recordings in order to “expand the musical conversation.”
“Thresher” features the bass line of Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie) and the saxophone of David Ralicke (Ozomatli). The track’s energy has inspired Movie Club to bring it into their live shows.

For their residency, Movie Club will be showcasing artists and voices with live collaborations with performers and creatives of many genres and mediums. The group has invited instrumentalists, burlesque dancers, drag performers, MCs and more.
Since drummer Jessamyn Violet is also a published author and has curated her favorite local Rock ’n’ Roll writers to perform spoken word over the duo’s instrumental music. They have done this kind of “Variety Show” show structure before in New York, and are now bringing it to their hometown.
Cuneo comments:
Bringing our music to new fans was truly inspiring. We are thrilled to have a chance to collaborate with local LA artists and then focus on the album release this Fall.
