New Zealand born, Melbourne-based artist Sarah Mary Chadwick has announced her eighth studio record Messages to God due out September 15 on Kill Rock Stars. The album was Executive Produced by Tony Espie (oracle to The Avalanches). The album “consists of dramatic retellings of having your heart broken, existing, movement, and growth, while always meditating on the past.” This marks a more positive turn from her previous album.

Lead single Shitty Town is out now alongside an official video. A prolific visual artist alongside her songwriting, Chadwick’s cover art of this record mirrors a “slight alteration in tone”. Whereas previously, self-portraits of herself alone fronted her releases, now she has pictured herself in a group around a piano.

Messages to God is not supposed to be a “happy album but it is “funny and optimistic” as it finds beauty in everyday occurrences.
