Multi-platinum artist Tim Hicks had headed into summer with the release of his new EP Campfire Troubadour Volume II via Open Road Recordings. The second Campfire Troubadour collection maintains the stripped back feeling of its Juno Award & CCMA Award nominated predecessor. The single “Puerto Backyarda” is out now, accompanied by a live acoustic video.
This time around, Jeff Coplan (producer extraordinaire) and I talked a lot about how we would make Volume II different from the first, but still keep the same spirit. We decided to keep our “Campfire Troubadour” rules in place. These rules include, but are not limited to: only using instruments that you can/would bring to a campfire; no recording tricks like double tracking (this one killed me, I love singing my own harmonies); and no autotune allowed! This time, we also made the party bigger by inviting Jeff Taylor (The Time Jumpers, Elvis Costello) to play accordion, and Jenée Fleenor (Loving Mary, Woodbox Heroes) to play fiddle. We also brought in Tony James to play a plethora of hand drums to give us the groove! The result? Seven new tracks for you to crack a cold one to in the backyard, or at the campsite this summer!
With the first run of dates for the Campfire Troubadour Tour announced, Hicks is gearing up for summer festival season, including performances at Dauphin Countryfest, Trois-Riveres Exposition, Country On The Bay, and headlining the opening night of Boots & Hearts.
