Russell Stewart, Glasgow-based artist focusing on Alt-Soul sounds, has shared his new single, “Align“, the first of several releases planned for 2022, along with a video video by Oddness Studio filmed at The Pipe Factory. The single evokes frustration over relationships that fail over a lack of life alignment.
The track was produced by Stuart Ramage and Roan Ballantine of the band VanIves, mastered by Robin Sutherland with the video created in collaboration with Kieran Howe, Delilah Rose Niel and Gary Beatson. The cover art is by Scottish artist and designer TAXMAN.
Speaking on the track, Russell Stewart says:
Align is about the struggle that comes with striving to make the start of a relationship work. Putting blame on the other person for all failings until you realise that you too are at fault, then accepting that you just don’t fit together and it wasn’t meant to be. This track marks the beginning of a new musical period in my life.
The track follows 2019’s Midsummer. After spending 2021 honing his sound and live performances, Stewart has been busy this year playing shows, including playing alongside VanIves for their album launch and sets from the main stage of Eden Festival and Kelburn Garden Party’s Pyramid Stage.
