Canadian Rock duo The Blue Stones, aka Tarek Jafar and Justin Tessier, have released new single “Good Ideas”, produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, The Strokes, Spoon). They previously released the single “Don’t Miss”, produced by Boonn (grandson/Demi Lovato), and have been touring in the US in continued support of their sophomore album, Hidden Gems.
Tarek Jafar reveals the inspiration behind “Good Ideas”:
You get to a point in writing music where you start to question everything, and it’s pretty fucking frustrating. Imposter syndrome starts to set in and you go to some dark and ultra-negative places. I didn’t think I was good enough to write anything at that point, and seriously considered just giving it up all together. All of those emotions came out in the lyrics for ‘Good Ideas’. Instead of shielding the world from it, we figured it was best to put it out there and see if the song’s content resonated with anyone that may have gone through that experience.
When Tarek Jafar and Justin Tessier formed The Blue Stones, they were facing uncertainty about who they were and where they were going, but they continued writing songs over time, eventually releasing their debut album Black Holes in 2018. Working with Producer Paul Meany they explored their sound and put more craftsmanship into lyrics, resulting in 2021’s Hidden Gems.
