Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist David Wimbish & The Collection have released the new single, “Love Song For An Empire”, via Nettwerk Music Group. Built around vintage classical guitar and the vocal harmonies, the song turns existential themes into personal and emotionally resonant Folk music. The song focuses on the idea that “love and compassion can still serve as guiding principles in an increasingly fractured world.”
Wimbish shares:
So many of us are navigating relationships with people we love who believe very different things from us. It feels like a season where knowing what’s real or true is much harder than it used to be, and where trusting each other’s beliefs feels extremely difficult as well. ‘Love Song for an Empire’ came from trying to navigate that space, and looking for what things in this world feel true beyond spaces that can be argued about. Like believing in the things that bring you joy, things of beauty, things of sadness, and people who are suffering. It’s a song of hope in the midst of chaos.
“Love Song For An Empire” is a “thematic centerpiece” for Wimbish’s forthcoming 16-track studio album, Heavy Love, set for release on November 13th, 2026. Written and recorded largely in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Heavy Love is influenced by “exhaustion, upheaval, and ultimate renewal.”
In the span of a single tumultuous year, Wimbish weathered a major breakup, relocated from Saxapahaw to Asheville, stepped into a new relationship, became a father, watched his community endure natural disaster, and navigated the restructuring of his long-running band.
The single release arrives amidst an extensive touring schedule. After giving fans their first taste of the new music live this summer by joining AJR at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA, Wimbish is now on the road alongside British-American indie-pop trio Raynes. Their tour will wrap up in Atlanta, GA on November 21st. Tickets are available HERE.
