Edley ODowd, formerly of Psychic TV, has announced new album Kowai-Yet, arriving on November 26, 2026, via Arsenic Solaris. Recorded over the course of three years in multiple locations, Kowai-yet brings together new music created with artists ODowd has worked with since leaving New York City to live closer to nature five years ago.
The album also reflects how he has developed as a Producer since his first solo effort, F(our)-Ward, released in 2022.
Edley shares:
It’s been freeing to have more technical confidence, providing me with more control over the finer emotions I was hoping to express on these seven tracks.
The idea behind Kowai-yet began with an unexpected listening experience several years ago.
Edley recounts:
“I had a fascinating aural experience, while I was driving home on a hot summer night with my windows rolled down.
The serenity of the crickets’ harmonies provided the perfect backdrop to the sound of my car tires against humid pavement and gravel. A harsher, rougher sound. In the immersive soundtrack I was presently enveloped in, it blended perfectly into being sinister but compelling at the same time. The singular word that came to mind to describe this sound was ‘kowai’, the Japanese word for ‘scary’. As I came to a halt at a stop sign, the air went still and silent. At that moment I thought ‘quiet’ which instantly became ‘Kowai-yet’.”

That “tension between beauty and unease” became a starting point for the album’s emotional and sonic direction.
Using this idea as an impetus for creating new recordings that evoke feelings of being within an environment where the ugly and beautiful collide was a great jumping-off point for me. Where F(our)-Ward was more about sound collage, Kowai-Yet is about emotion. It’s infused with joy as well as a heaping dose of sadness.
Across its seven tracks, Kowai-yet brings together recordings made in different places, with different collaborators and under very different circumstances.
