West LA-based instrumental trio Captains Of Entropy have released their latest EP, Beatrice Comes Home, which furthers the band’s psychedelic inspired sound. Loosely following the narrative arc of a space travel frenzy, produced and mixed by 2x Grammy-winning engineer Bill Mims (Ben Harper, Jimmy Cliff), Beatrice Comes Home finds the perfect balance between a newfound sense of control built from the band’s free-flowing spirit as well as a feeling of lightheartedness often absent from the band’s pandemic-era work.

The pandemic musical project of three neighbors, Captains Of Entropy strives to craft “textured, enchanting soundscapes.” Beatrice Comes Home sees the instrumental trio take on a more narrative-based approach by fine-dialing their sound at EastWest Studios in Hollywood. 

The band has also released the “Rosetta” music video. Crafted by video artist Matthew Mourgides and based on the band’s original concept for the EP, the video depicts the Captains embarking on an outer-space mission, one that headed to far places with cardboard attires and equipment, and “perhaps headed to nowhere at all.”

The band says about “Rossetta”:

‘Rosetta’ was named after a space mission and intended to be a dance party in space. It’s one of our more modal based songs. It’s not the most complicated chord progression which allows for a simple canvas over which to explore with more reckless abandon then some. This song of all of the songs on the new EP feels closest to what approach was on our first record, which favored a live jammy stripped-down sound.

Matthew Mourgides remarks on the making of the music video:

The music immediately gave me this feeling of repetition and escape, of being trapped in the rhythms of everyday life while dreaming of something bigger. I wanted the three band members to almost feel like fragments of the same person, moving through this endless routine, until the world they’ve been dreaming about starts breaking through and eventually becomes their reality.
