Songwriter Jesse James DeConto’s seventh full-length album as The Pinkerton Raid is titled If You Love Somebody, Tell Them, and is emotionally grounded in his life as a father which started at the age of 24. With “terror, genocide, climate disaster, economic collapse, crumbling democracy and an American culture war on the verge of a civil war” looming for the last twenty and more years, it leads to the question: “What kind of place is this to raise children?”The new album is also therefore something of a protest album, arriving on October 2nd, 2026.

Jesse James DeConto says:

Protest songs are love songs because the only politics worth a lick are those based in loving our neighbors. You tell somebody you love them by listening to them, by acting on what they say if you’re able, and, as fellow citizens, by voting in people and policies that serve them.

Side A of the album “narrates the hardship of raising kids through this quarter-century.” Whereas, Side B “celebrates beauty in the face of the ugliest oppression.”
