Alternative Folk artist and Producer Rabbitology, aka Nat Timmerman, has announced her new EP, Phthalo, which will be released on August 28th, 2026. The 6-song collection follows her 2025 debut EP, Living Ghost, and b-side expansion, Living Ghost: Still Rising. “Phthalo” is in reference to pigments used in paints, specifically those that are green and blue.
Nat Timmerman explains:
The central concept of this EP is to be an opposite-sided coin to ‘Living Ghost,’ where if ‘Living Ghost’ was about death and stagnancy, ‘Phthalo’ is about rebirth and growth. It is themed around lush greenery and the concept of creation or recreation—re-imagining oneself, one’s life, one’s relationship to the world. I chose the word “Phthalo” specifically because each song takes on some form of a painting motif, whether that be ‘The Glowing’ literally having someone paint another into existence a lá Pygmalion, ‘The Bog Bodies’ referencing the famous painting of Millais’ ‘Ophelia,’ or using elements of painting in their soundscape, such as a kickdrum made from a canvas.
Rabbitolgy has also recently shared her new single, “Two-Headed Hare,” an Indie Pop song produced along with Tyler Heath of The Oh Hellos tour. It’s about “looking for the good omens even in hopeless situations.”
Timmerman comments on the new song:
It’s surreal, since I grew up listening to The Oh Hellos and wishing I could make a song that even compares to their caliber, to having Tyler’s instrumentation and vision help guide this song. This song is in two segments. The first is about the early buds of a relationship, those first exciting months. It’s based on a true experience, where, upon returning home after spending time with this person, we’d see two rabbits sitting together on the lawn. We joked that they were us from a future life, coming back to watch the beginning of our relationship. The second segment is about doubt. About wondering where things are going, about holding out hope when you’re not sure if you should. This is in direct response to one night, upon returning home, we only saw one rabbit. The other was flattened in the middle of the road. Both of us being metaphorically-influenced thinkers, we immediately took this as a bad omen. Though, to soothe us, we decided that this could still be a good omen with a little hope. That, if these are our future selves, even in knowing that eventually one of us would be flattened by a car, we still went into those rabbits, just for the fleeting chance to watch our early selves one more time.
This is a song about hope, all things considered, that, no matter if a relationship works out or not, that both individuals would still be willing to go back and watch this love, if not for one more aching time. That no matter how it ends or begins again, we’ll both be around the bend in some capacity.
This Fall, Rabbitology will set out on a North American co-headline run with Amélie Farren & Lilith Max, launching on September 24th, 2026 in Columbus, OH, and wrapping on October 18th, 2026 at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA.
