Stu Larsen Traveled The World For A Year To Write, Record, And Shoot Videos For ‘Solitude’

Australian singer/songwriter Stu Larsen has shared that his new album, Solitude, has been released. Over the years, Stu Larsen’s travels have taken him around the world and back again. He chose to devote the entirety of 2024 to the intercontinental creation of his fourth full-length album, Solitude.

During the creation of Solitude, Larsen decided to visit one location per month for a full year, to write a song and film an accompanying performance video in each location. This sojourn carried him across New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Scotland, England, Austria, Germany, Italy, Canada, the U.S.A., and Argentina.

Larsen expains:

This crazy idea had been percolating for a while, but I really started to understand it in 2023. I live my life very nomadically; I haven’t had a home in almost two decades. So, I tried to come up with a creative way to spend a year writing and demoing these tracks. I was completely alone, crafting 12 songs in 12 locations over 12 months. I purposefully used these remote places to create these new songs that make up my new album, Solitude.

The album’s finale, “Eden,” focuses on the peace Larsen has found through his wanderlust. Crafted in the final destination of Patagonia, Argentina, the song capped off his creative trip.

He comments:

It was truly magical, though. I had a little cabin with wild horses all around. There was a river nearby and a snow-capped volcano. All of these songs are drawing on the past and, sometimes, the future. ‘Eden’ is about being content with the life I’ve lived. If it’s all taken away tomorrow, I’m okay with it. I don’t know what comes after this project for me, but if this was the last song on the last album I ever release, I’m okay with that.

He shares some of the ideas that he hopes audiences will get from the album:

I hope listeners are encouraged to turn off their phones, to disconnect, for whatever time is possible or appropriate, and simply see what happens. It’s not easy to disconnect. But if we can push through the initial awkwardness, something really beautiful can happen internally for each of us. For now, I can’t wait to hit the road with a guitar or two, connect with people everywhere, and share these songs and this message with a crowd each night.
