Americana and Roots artist Sam Morrow recently released Southern Boogie, his new album, via Copaco/Blue Élan Records. He’s also revealed the track “Saturday Night” taken from the record.
Morrow has been known for genre-bending Americana, but has expanded his sound on Southern Boogie to include Southern Rock with a “Texas backbone.” The album arrives after a period of significant personal and professional change, including a move from Los Angeles to Nashville and a “desire to create music that felt more honest and reflective of who he is today.”
Recorded mostly live in Austin with Producer Jonathan Tyler, the album strips strips things down to the energy and performance of a band in a room.
Morrow comments:
Jonathan got it before I even explained it. We just wanted it to sound gritty and raw. Like a band in a room, because that’s what it is.
Throughout the album, Morrow “reflects on endings, new beginnings, hard-won happiness and the freedom that comes from finally trusting yourself.”
The song “Saturday Night,” is satirical and “captures the feeling of invincibility that can come with a night out that seems destined to last forever.”

Morrow adds about the album:
I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. And I think that shows on the record. It’s playful. It doesn’t take itself too seriously.
