Midwest Indie Folk artist Humbird has announced that her new album, Morning When It Comes, will be released on September 25, 2026, via Nettwerk. Alongside this news, she has shared the album’s opening track, “Daughter of Empire,” out now.
Written by Siri Undlin, the artist behind the moniker, while “navigating a wave of mental and physical illness,” Morning When It Comes is a collection of twelve “secular hymns that draw inspiration from the cosmos to find comfort down here on Earth.”
Recorded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the album marks Undlin’s debut as a co-Producer, working alongside longtime producer Shane Leonard. Together with a cast of collaborators, including bassist Pat Keen and pedal steel player Rich Hinman (Sara Bareilles, Rosanne Cash), they rafted a Midwest Americana sound with electric elements.
New single “Daughter of Empire” takes on the “heavy realities of late-stage capitalism and daily dissociation.”
Undlin reflects:
It was surprisingly cathartic to take this song about empire and personal avoidance and choose to infuse it with playfulness and sonic urgency, a reminder that small changes can shift an entire framework if you’re willing to experiment and not take yourself too seriously.
The past two years have marked a prolific stretch for the Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter. She released her critically acclaimed album Right On in 2024, followed by 2025’s Astrovan: The Love Song Vignettes.
During that time, Humbird toured extensively, headlining clubs across the U.S. and supporting Indigo De Souza, Watchhouse, Brent Cobb, and Lady Lamb, in addition to appearances at Americanafest, Folk Alliance, Pickathon, Treefort Music Festival, MerleFest, Celtic Connections, and NPR’s Mountain Stage. In addition to one-off show dates and festival appearances, Humbird will join John Craigie as support on his September east coast run.
