Following the release of the archival collection Steppin’ Back 1988, Rock ‘n Roll artist Jamie James is returning with the second installment in his ongoing Steppin’ Back series. Arriving digitally on May 22, 2026 via Oglio Entertainment, Steppin’ Back 1999 revisits James’ songwriting history with a newly remastered collection of tracks originally recorded at the turn of the millennium.
Best known as the frontman of Rockabilly trio The Kingbees, as well as for his work alongside Harry Dean Stanton and Dennis Quaid & The Sharks, James is a storied part of Los Angeles Rock history.

Steppin’ Back 1999 features eight tracks drawn from the sessions that produced James’ 2000 release Crossroads. Rather than simply reissuing the original album, James and Oglio Entertainment revisited the material and curated what they felt were the strongest recordings from that era, now newly remastered for 2026.
James says:
A solid backbeat, a rockin’ groove, a tasty guitar riff, and a few simple words — and presto, you have Steppin’ Back 1999. This is the second set of original songs from the Jamie James Steppin’ Back series of albums, presented by Oglio Entertainment. Crank it up until your ears start to bleed!
Produced by Jamie James and Felix Brenner, the collection captures James leaning fully into his signature blend of Roots Rock, Blues, and guitar-driven songwriting.
The album was originally mastered by Jim Goodwin at Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood, with new remastering for this release handled by John Miller at Robot Kitten Studios in Los Angeles.
All songs were written by Jamie James and published by Short Fuse Music (BMI). Executive production was handled by longtime collaborator Carl Caprioglio.
