Houndmouth’s “Never Gonna Die” Lets Go To See Things How They Are

The band Houndmouth have released the latest single from their new album, Lordy. The track “Never Gonna Die” features Houndmouth frontman Matt Myers singing about “challenging relationships”.

Myers says of the song:

It’s just about letting go and seeing things how they are. Accepting that fact that you’re going to die kind of making you feel like you’re gonna live forever.

Lordy takes a stripped-back approach to Houndmouth’s sound. It’s an album about “surviving, rebuilding, accepting, and thriving once more.” Myers wrote most of the record’s songs at home, strumming his Martin guitar while sunshine streamed through the kitchen windows.

For two years, Myers struggled to finish new songs while his life went through changes. Things changed when he paid a visit to Phil Cook, the Grammy-winning producer who’d overseen Houndmouth’s fourth record, Good For You. What began as a reunion of two friends gave way to the restart of Myers’ songwriting engines and the creation of Lordy

Myers says of Phil Cook:

When I visited him in North Carolina for the first time, he walked out of his garage and gave me a big bear hug. He told me he was happy for me, and he gave me a lot of confidence with my new songs.

Lordy is an album that “asks its audience to lean in, listen closely, and engage.” It’s both an intimate album and one that packs an emotional punch.
