Brother Bird, the project of Nashville singer-songwriter Caroline Glaser, today has shared new single “Chameleon”. Co-produced by Glaser, Jamie Martens, Owen Lewis, and Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull, the release arrives alongside a video directed by Glaser herself, as well as the news that she will be supporting Hull on an upcoming U.S. tour, including dates at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music (5/29 + 5/30), NYC’s Le Poisson Rouge (6/7), and more.
Glaser explains:
This was one of the first songs I wrote after finishing my sophomore record, ‘Another Year. It kind of set the tone for this new chapter of Brother Bird, both lyrically and melodically. I started coming up with little characters each day as a writing exercise, then making up songs from their perspective. It always ended up being a good mix of fact and fiction…it kind of allowed me to say the ugly thing without fully claiming it as my own. It’s been the most cathartic couple years of songwriting I’ve ever experienced. It really pulled me out of the mud, I hope people find solace in it! I hope the shapeshifters/people-pleasers/chameleons feel seen and empowered to conform a little less.
The track “Chameleon” has been a staple of her live set for years, road-tested and refined across countless shows before finally making its way to a studio recording.
Beyond Brother Bird, Glaser has stayed busy. Last year she announced Funambulist, a new band with longtime friend and collaborator Kevin Devine, formed after months on the road together. She opened for and accompanied Devine on the Make the Clocks Worse tour (the joint anniversary run for KD’s Make the Clocks Move and New Amsterdam’s Worse for the Wear), along with a handful of solo shows and Bad Books dates.
She has since been invited to sing on Bad Books 2 (Revisited) alongside longtime collaborators and pals Andy Hull and Robert McDowell, and has been quietly writing with Hull on a separate project for the past few years, with more to share soon.
