Drudkh’s New EP ‘Thaw’ Inhabits The Same Atmosphere As Previous Album ‘Shadowplay’

Ukrainian Atmospheric Black Metal band Drudkh have released a new EP, titled Thaw, which is a companion to their latest full-length album, Shadowplay.

Rather than starting in on a new chapter, Thaw “lingers in the atmosphere” of Shadowplay. The three songs on the new EP “inhabit the fragile interval between stillness and movement, where change begins almost imperceptibly beneath a frozen surface.”

Themes of “memory, liminality, and inner exile surface.” The music unfolds slowly and allows some elements to remain unresolved.

Through Shadow Play, Drudkh “challenge us to confront our own shadows, to find beauty in desolation.” This EP is another chapter in their discography which reflects the band’s concern with “the relentless pursuit of truth, and the undying passion for unearthing the hidden threads that connect us to the past.”

The EP Thaw was recorded during the previous album’s sessions and “conceived within the same emotional horizon.” It finds its place in the band’s work by “deepening its atmosphere and affirming continuity over rupture.”
