Norwegian band Gåte started out in the early 2000s and broke new ground by mixing Nordic Folk tradition and modern Rock. In 2002, their debut album won them the Spellemann Award (Norwegian Grammy) for Best Newcomer.

Following two more successful albums, the band took a hiatus before returning in 2017. They represented Norway in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest and toured throughout Europe in 2025 with Leprous.

Having joined the label Season of Mist, Gåte recently released “Sannsiger”, the first single from their soon-to-be-announced sixth studio album. Featuring Maria Franz from Season of Mist labelmate Heilung, it weaves Hardanger fiddle and nyckelharpa into their contemporary sound. It’s accompanied by a music video.

Gåte says of recent developments:

Signing with Season of Mist reflects a shared ambition to work without compromise and with a long-term vision for reaching an international audience. The title of our  new single, ‘Sannsiger’, is a figure who is found in folklore and belief systems across cultures. They are understood as someone who interprets signs, visions and divine messages, in order to foresee what lies ahead. Within the context of this song, they also represent those who dare to speak uncomfortable truths. Throughout history, and still today, such voices have often been silenced, punished or attacked for challenging what others wish to keep hidden.

Heilung vocalist Maria Franz says:

‘Sannsiger’ hit me from the very first moment that I heard it. The song’s raw energy immediately resonated with me. I’ve been a fan of Gåte for many years, so accepting the invitation was a no-brainer. The band were wonderful to work with, and I’m very excited to hear the rest of their upcoming album.

In anticipation of their upcoming new album, Gåte have announced a Fall headline tour. The tour will bring the band to nine cities across Norway, plus one date in Istanbul, Turkey.
