Transatlantic Folk duo Sons of Town Hall have released their new single, “Antarctica,” from their album, Of Ghosts and Gods, which has just been released. It’s accompanied by an official video.
In addition, expanding the album’s universe, they have launched the Madmen Cross the Water podcast, out now.
The duo says of “Antarctica”:
It builds from two vocals and two guitars in the beginning to a full orchestra with brass and percussion by the end. It’s an epic story of adventure and daring and friendship, a soaring song about getting to the bottom of the world with our shipmates and not letting anything stop us. The song is inspiring. It’s a declaration that hope is still possible against odds, which feels very relevant today when so many social or political fights seem daunting and hopeless.
The album Of Ghosts and Gods unfolds as “a complete narrative song cycle, rooted in nautical imagery, myth, and brotherhood.” At the heart of the album is “Antarctica,” its most expansive track.

Recorded almost entirely live around shared microphones, with no click tracks or electric instruments, Of Ghosts and Gods captures Sons of Town Hall in an immersive way. The songs “function not only as individual stories but as chapters in a larger world that invites listeners to suspend disbelief, embrace wonder, and believe in something hopeful again.”
Sons of Town Hall have been on the road since February with the conclusion of the Of Ghosts and Gods US run on March 8 at Mountain Stage. They will head to the UK and Europe starting in June.
