Katie Pruitt Gains Fresh Perspective With ‘The Pleasantville Sessions’ EP

Rounder Records artist Katie Pruitt will release the four-song EP, The Pleasantville Sessions this Friday, October 10th. The Pleasantville Sessions features three recently released tracks, “Backseat Driver,” “Risk” and “Time Wasn’t Wasted” (featuring Jess Nolan), plus the brand-new track “Get It Over With.”

Pruitt shares about the new song:

“Get It Over With” is about my personal experience going through a breakup with a people pleaser. Having to do the emotional labor because someone else can’t find the words. It was a hard song to write but equally as hard to live through which made it feel worth sharing. Just in case anyone else can relate (I hope you can’t) this one’s for you.

Written & recorded in August 2024 in Nashville with co-writer/producer and dear friend Anthony Da Costa, The Pleasantville Sessions was a helpful process for Pruitt following a difficult separation.

Pruitt explains:

I felt safe to open up again after almost a year of not being able to put pen to paper. I was in a very stuck place when we started and the goal was to get ‘unstuck.’ Anthony’s studio is small but mighty-with incredible outboard gear, vintage mics & all the Collings guitars my little heart could desire but the true anecdote was collaboration & friendship. The name of the studio is appropriately titled ‘Pleasantville Studio’ which really captures the vibe of that place – an incredibly pleasant place to create music.

Katie Pruit is about to head out on the final leg of her solo acoustic Time Wasn’t Wasted Tour with collaborator Jess Nolan in support. The tour kicks off on October 14th at Union Stage in Washington, DC.

The Pleasantville Sessions follows the release of Pruitt’s sophomore album Mantras, and its deluxe edition (Mantras Deluxe), which features guest appearances from SG Goodman and Ruston Kelly.
