Rounder Records artist Katie Pruitt has released her new single, “Backseat Driver.” The track is a “reflection on control, codependence, and reclaiming your voice after losing it in the noise of someone else’s suppressive love.”
Written with and produced by Anthony da Costa at Pleasantville Studios in Nashville, TN, “Backseat Driver” unfolds “like a late-night drive gone wrong — full of tension, silence, and the slow realization that love, when steered by control, leads only to a crash.”
Pruitt says about the track:
Backseat Driver is about that ex who always gave you bad directions. Sometimes we’re in so deep with someone that we forget to trust our own gut. It’s about listening to everyone’s opinion except your own until you finally take accountability & realize you were in the driver’s seat all along.
“Backseat Driver” follows the release of Pruitt’s widely sophomore album Mantras, and its deluxe edition (Mantras Deluxe), which features guest appearances from SG Goodman and Ruston Kelly.

In addition to the release of “Backseat Driver,” Pruitt recently announced a stripped-back Fall acoustic tour, beginning in Decatur, GA on September 4th and wrapping up in Woodstock, NY on October 25th. The tour will be making stops in Nashville, Washington DC, New York City and Philadelphia, among other places.
