Jon Gazi Brings Homegrown Calypso Rock To “Statia”

St Thomas, US Virgin Islands-based solo artist Jon Gazi, who is also the full-time bassist for Ska-Punk band Mad Caddies, has released new song “Statia.”

Gazi is a pioneer of Calypso Rock music in the tropics, or “rockalypso” as he calls it, and is known for he and his bands’ performances at the annual Carnival celebrations.

Gazi says of “Statia”:

The parallel between the energy of our diverse population that makes up Carnival here in the Caribbean Islands and that of a rock show overseas is astonishing and must be embodied.

Stazi has performed alongside some of his greatest inspirations, including Sean Paul, NOFX, Flogging Molly, Rancid, Morgan Heritage, Third World and Shaggy. He has toured in Europe, the USA, Japan, Ecuador, Hawaii and Central America.
