Katie Pruitt’s ‘Mantras’ Gets An Expanded Deluxe Edition

Rounder Records has released Mantras (Deluxe) from singer/songwriter Katie Pruitt. The deluxe version of her 2024 album features three new alternative tracks, with special guests. Mantras is Pruitt’s first album in five years and her most personal work.

A new version of “White Lies, White Jesus, and You” features a full verse and harmony vocals from SG Goodman. When writing the song, Pruitt went to Kentucky to see Goodman to show her the song. Her friend offered some ideas that helped guide the final version of the track, which “addresses Pruitt’s frustration with conservative Christian ideology and the hypocrisy.”

Pruitt explains:

‘White Lies, White Jesus and You’ acoustic is for all my queer, trans & non-binary friends that have been shamed by those who claim to be Christian. It’s taken me years to separate the actual Bible from those who weaponize it. I’ve learned when to stop arguing with people whose minds might never change & how to redirect that energy into living a happy, full & authentic life. No matter what laws change or how people try to invalidate our existence, we’re still not going anywhere. Keep shining, friends.

Also found on Mantras (Deluxe) is a stripped-down version of “Standstill,” which was released as a stand-alone single last Fall. The new interpretation of the track features guest vocals from the song’s co-author Ruston Kelly, accompanied by a solo piano. The third track is an alternate acoustic version of the Pruitt’s song “Worst Case Scenario.” This is a “special intimate rendition”.
