Secret Gardens Turns Towards Autumn’s Charms With ‘The Impermanent Amber’

Secret Gardens, the guitar-driven Post-Rock project helmed by Greg Almeida, has released a drum playthrough video for the track “The Crisp” off their latest release, The Impermanent Amber. This album is the latest installment in the project’s tetralogy, where each album is crafted “to sonically represent a different season.”

Secret Gardens works toward providing a “meaningful soundtrack to each season of life.” Starting with Tundra (winter), followed by Everbloom (spring) and Verão (summer), the journey culminates in the autumnal essence of The Impermanent Amber.

The drum playthrough video for “The Crisp” features Joe DeGregory, the touring drummer of Secret Gardens, showcasing his skill and creative contributions.

“The Crisp” is described by Greg Almeida as:

…a love letter to our instrumental progressive roots and a song we really enjoyed making together organically. Sonically, the objective with this song was to capture those first beautiful sunny fall days, where there’s a chill in the air but it feels perfect. The beginning part of this song just kind of feels like that first time in the autumn where you can put your favorite hoodie on and go for a walk. It gets a bit heavier later as night sets in.

The album The Impermanent Amber explores themes such as “homecoming, the concept of home, decay, existentialism, and the idea that nothing lasts forever.”

Greg Almeida explains:

When writing The Impermanent Amber, I had always wondered what it would be like if the touring lineup got in a room and wrote a song together instead of just me, because we all get along really well — so we tried it. ‘The Crisp’ is the lovely result of that session, and I wanted this video to showcase Joe’s finely crafted parts that totally changed the game on this song.

Secret Gardens has had notable collaborations with Andrew Wells (Dance Gavin Dance/Eidola), Ella Meadows (Transit), and Joe Arrington (Royal Coda). Greg Almeida is also known as the live guitarist for post-hardcore band A Lot Like Birds.
