Tasty Goody Records recently released Let’s Go Dancing: Split a Mountain in Two with a Flake of Snow: A Compilation Celebrating the Songs of Kevn Kinney. It is available on colored vinyl and is the second installment of the living tribute to Kevn Kinney which will ultimately result in 4 albums and 100 digital singles.
Split a Mountain in Two with a Flake of Snow features 11 more Roots-influenced renditions of songs from Kinney’s catalog and includes Darius Rucker and the Carolina Grey Boy with “Lost and Found”, Jesse Malin takes on “Hey, Landlord”, Butch Walker & Elizabeth Cook interpret “Straight to Hell” and Jamey Johnson takes on the title track, “Let’s Go Dancing” which has also released digitally alongside the physical LP release.
Since the first album release, there has been a parade of singles by a diverse group of artists who wanted to honor Kinney. The digital singles are each released with single artwork painted by Kinney’s wife, the creator and curator of the project as well as a fine art painter, Anna Jensen.
The artwork is “meaningful, reflecting some aspect of the song, Kinney’s life or relationship with the artist interpreting his lyrics.”
She has been sharing videos of the artwork coming to life on socials, you can see her painting the art for Ricky McKinnie of Blind Boys of Alabama’s “Check Your Tears at the Door” here.

The coming weeks/months will bring tunes by the likes of Old Crow Medicine Show, Futurebirds, Angie Aparo, Cat Power and others.
