Hungarian Heavy Music project Thy Cafalque is releasing their 12th album, XII, just one year after their previous album. Just like Alföld, they set out to make a straightforward Metal record. But A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek, which in English translates to The Beautiful Dreams Are Yet to Come, ended up becoming surreal.

Songwriter Tamás Kátai says:

I think of this album as an introspective journey through the night.

Many familiar faces join Kátai on this journey. A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnekfeatures the biggest guest list in Thy Catafalque’s history. Martina Veronika Horváth, whose band The Answer Lies in the Black Void toured Europe with Thy Catafalque earlier in 2024, duets with Gábor Dudás for a faithful rendition of “Lydiához”, a 1980 Sebő ensemble song that impacted Hungary’s Roots revival. While violins, cello, clarinet, and other classical instruments are featured on the album, on the whole, it carries Heavy influences.

Kátai needed some guidance on Production on the album, and this time worked with an outside Producer for the first time, Gábor Vári.

For two decades, Tamás Kátai was content on sticking to the studio. That changed in 2021, when he and a cast of experienced players performed at the Fekete Zaj Festival. This milestone was later captured on Mezolit, but Thy Catafalque has continued to grow into a steady live act.

Last month, Thy Catafalque performed in Spain during a showcase for Rock, Pop and Electronic music at BIME Live Festival. Now, to celebrate their new album, Kátai and his ever-growing list of collaborators are performing two very special sold-out shows at one of Hungary’s most well-loved underground venues, where they’ll perform songs off XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek, along with all ten tracks on the recently reissued fifth album Rengeteg.

During these two special shows at Dürer Kert, Thy Catafalque will be joined by Shum, labelmate Saor and Kátai’s old band, Gire.

Next summer, Thy Catafalque will hit Kilkim Zaibu, Alcatraz and other major stops along the European festival circuit for the very first time.
