Just ahead of the November elections, singer/songwriter Aaron Lee Tasjan has released a newly remixed version of his single “I Love America Better Than You”, out now. The track features the bass work of Dave Schools from Widespread Panic. Its goal is to be inspirational in making one’s voice heard.
Reflecting on the release, Tasjan shares:
Given the current political climate we’re facing in this country, the timing feels right for ‘I Love America Better Than You.’ People need these moments of brevity during intense periods of social and political discourse, and that’s what we’re living through right now. ‘I Love America Better Than You’ is an anthem for this moment in time, and the lyric-forward approach will allow people to make it their own source of inspiration to fight for what they believe in and make their voices heard at the polls in November.
About the personal nature of the track, he adds:
It’s just me being really honest about my experience growing up and living in this country.
The remixed single comes from Tasjan’s latest album, Stellar Evolution, a collection that speaks to both personal and collective experiences. Stellar Evolution was written against the backdrop of increasing attacks on the LGBTQI+ community in the South.
The album was “inspired by dark times, including the bathroom and drag bans enacted in Tennessee, as well as the increasingly hostile right-wing rhetoric.” For Tasjan, this record is “about offering a safe space for the vibrant queer community that has become a home to him.”
