Woody Platt has announced the upcoming release of his debut solo album Far Away With You. The new album is Platt’s first new music since stepping away from The Steep Canyon Rangers, the Grammy-winning Bluegrass group he co-founded, in 2022.

Far Away With You works at the intersection of traditional and modern Bluegrass and addresses contemporary themes.

Platt comments:

I was ready for a break from the road but not necessarily from music. Naturally, on my first record, I returned to my roots for a straight-ahead bluegrass project.

“Toe the Line”, the 2rd single from the upcoming record, is out now. The new track pairs Platt with contemporary Bluegrass musician Tim O’Brien on harmony vocals. It’s a song “about a wandering spirit feeling the pull of Appalachia” written by Barrett Davis and Josh Carter.

The theme of collaboration runs throughout Platt’s new project. The first single from Far Away With You released earlier this year was a cover of the Blind Willie McTell classic, “Broke Down Engine,” pairing Platt with Del McCoury. On the Kings of Leon’s cover “Beautiful War,” Darrell Scott provides tenor harmony and Weissenborn guitar. And on  “Like the Rain Does”, Platt reunites with long-time bluegrass pals Rob McCoury (banjo), Jason Carter (fiddle), and Buddy Melton (vocals).
