Ben Chapman Hopes ‘Downbeat’ Will Help The World Make Sense For A Little Bit

Nashville singer/songwriter Ben Chapman creates a blend of Country-Funk. His latest single and title track “Downbeat,” is out now. The full album, Downbeat, produced by Anderson East is due out Dec. 13, 2024.

Chapman shares:

Before I moved to Nashville, I played just about every dive bar, Mexican restaurant, coffee shop, and small town festival you could think of. I found that when the music starts playing it has a hypnotizing effect on people. It has the power to make two rednecks stop fighting, make a first date for the two love birds in the corner booth less awkward, or turn a lonely, drunken night around. Music makes everything alright, even if it’s just for a moment, and that’s what I want this record to do. I want it to make this crazy world we live in make sense for a little bit.

Although Chapman came to Nashville to write songs, and he has written for Flatland Cavalry, Shelby Lynne, Muscadine Bloodline, and The Steel Woods, with Downbeat, his third full-length LP,  he is now more focused on himself as an artist.

He adds:

Downbeat shows a side of me that my last two projects didn’t. I’ve lived almost every song on this record. The lyrics are better, my tone is sweeter, and I’m finding out who I am, what I want to say, and how to say it.

Chapman is a native of LaFayette, Ga., who made frequent trips along I-24 between his hometown and his now-home for several years, attending songwriting sessions and making connections in Nashville. He moved officially on New Year’s Day 2019, shortly after his 21st birthday. During years of playing up and down the highway, he honed his self-taught guitar playing and songwriting skills.
