Americana singer/songwriter David Newbould released the album Power Up! via Blackbird Record Label in 2022, and has been spending the time since then on singles releases and energetic live performing, including forays to Europe.
Now, Blackbird Record Label will be releasing Newbould’s Live In Germany on Friday, July 5th, 2024, which is a live album that was recorded on tour. On July 9th, 2024 Newbould also embarks on another tour of Germany and Belgium.
We’re very pleased to premier Newbould’s track “Feel Like I Been Dyin (Live)” ahead of the album’s release, a single which will otherwise be available on the album release day.
The song, which blends Blues and Roots Rock elements, has straightforward lyrics that leave room for thought, but turn on a universal feeling of unease and exhaustion. Setting off on the journey of life, the speaker finds that no matter where they wander, a feeling dogs them relentlessly, a deathly presence. In the course of their wandering, they feel that they’ve fallen into the hands of the devil and that they’ve been gone from their true home too long. A feeling of reaching the end of the road closes in. The instrumentation strongly conveys the sense of confusion and trepidation that the central character also expresses, essentially a cry for help.
The live performance of this track not only showcases what fans will hear at Newbould’s shows, but also the roominess and space given to instrumental expression that a live setting affords the music. The band uses the extra time and space of a live location to contrast heavier and lighter elements with dramatic effect. Knowing that this is not a studio track also makes Newbould’s rather precise vocals that much more impressive, and the fact that the atmospheric quality of the song is so faithfully captured live by the band is also noteworthy.
The song was recorded by Jürgen Bleeckmann, produced & mixed by David Newbould at Carport Lovin’, and mastered by Alex McCollough at True East Mastering. On the track, David Newbould handles vocals and electric/acoustic guitar. Adam Dalton performs on guitar and background vocals. Joel Strandberg performs bass and background vocals, and Tommy Goss performs on drums.
Newbould was born in Toronto, and relocated to New York City as a teenager, followed by a period in Austin’s music scene before ultimately settling in Nashville. There he found a welcome in the music town’s diverse community.

Albums like 2013’s Tennessee reflected on Nebould’s travels and inner journey as a musician, while 2019’s Sin & Redemption found him working with an A-list studio band. For Power Up!, he dove into 70s aesthetics and focused on a home-made quality.
