Texas-based musicians Amy Nelson and Cathy Guthrie of Folk Uke have revealed new single “Gay For You,” which was recorded/engineered by Matt Hubbard (Willie Nelson).

The duo says:

We were sitting around drinking one night and had this idea that instead of writing love songs for undeserving men, maybe we should write love songs for each other. We dedicate this song to our LGBTQ+ sisters and brothers around the world. We hope you will feel the love we have for you in this song.

The artists who would be Folk Uke converged in a restaurant in San Diego where they both worked. The “anti-folk” folk duo has toured with acts like The Jayhawks, X and Cathy Guthrie’s dad, Arlo Guthrie.

You may have heard their music in Super Troopers II, The Babymakers, and Orange is the New Black. They’ve also released songs with Amy Nelson’s dad, Willie Nelson. Their previous albums include Folk Uke (2005), Reincarnation (2011) and Starf*cker (2016).

Folk Uke will be making the following appearance today in Austin, TX.
