The Lumineers’ co-founder, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah Fraites has announced the Deluxe Edition of his new album Piano Piano 2 that will release on May 31st, 2023 through Dualtone Records/Mercury KX.
The deluxe edition will feature two additional unreleased tracks, including “Song for No One,” a song recorded during the initial studio sessions, and the stripped-down demo version of the original album track “Rio,” which is out now.
Of the latter, Fraites says:
This stripped version of ‘Rio’ allows the listener to hear the song the way it was written in the demo – without the added strings and misc instruments – a sort of glimpse into how I write music, always first making it work on a singular instrument before dressing it up in the studio.
Fraites charts new territory with Piano Piano 2, becoming much more expansive and experimental than his work on 2021 debut Piano Piano. That includes pairing piano with layers of percussion, acoustic guitar, strings, spoken-word snippets, and synths.

You can also watch the video for album single “No Surprises,” a cover of Radiohead’s song, featuring guest vocals by Gregory Alan Isakov and strings from Macedonian FAME’S Studio Orchestra.
