Austin-based experimental Folk artist Jenny Parrott (she/they) has announced their new album Love Spell, set for release on June 28, 2024. With vocals in both in English and Spanish, the album also employs guitar, synth and omnichord. It explores personal themes of Parrott’s life, from “surviving toxic relationships to overcoming trauma, and at the end of the day, finding hope and love within oneself and all around.”
Alongside the announcement, Parrott has also shared the single + video “The Other Cheek”, which navigates complicated advice and a difficult source.
Parrot explains:
The track explores what it feels like when people tell you to turn the other cheek – or change your emotions, or outlook, or to forgive – and the feeling of wanting to but also being uncertain about how.
The accompanying video, directed by Jillian Godshall, showcases found footage from vintage scenes, with each clip overlaid and filtered with a purple hue.
Across Love Spell, Jenny Parrott reflects on “a longing for love and connection” throughout their life. The project “explores all forms of love: from platonic, to romantic, to spiritual, resulting in a yearning for a world with more unconditional, unabashed love.”
The creation of the project was partially funded by a creative grant from the city of Austin, TX, and was recorded in Parrott’s home studio.
Parrott shares about their sound:
Some songs took a few tries and I realized I should follow the path of going wild with my Juno synth and omnichord where I might usually want horns, strings, piano. I wanted to play with my passion for folk and soul and also my love of electronic sound.

Jenny Parrott made their solo debut with the album When I Come Down in 2017. The project was followed by the release of The Fire I Saw (2021), with their latest album Pregnancy Choir coming in 2022.
Jenny Parrott also hosts singing and songwriting workshops in Austin as part of their work to “liberate voices.” They have also hosted monthly “femme james” as a “safe place for women and non-binary folks to jam and explore music,” and has contributed time to the local non-profit, Communitas.
