Indie Folk duo The Brother Brothers have shared new single “Brown Dog.” It’s the latest track from their upcoming album The January Album, due out April 19th, 2024. The song “muses on social media and our dependence on phones and devices to pass the time.” The duo is comprised of identical twins Adam Moss (violin, vocals) and David Moss (guitar, vocals).
Adam says about the single:
David got a dog a couple months before the album recording sessions and I was finding myself feeling alone and sort of on autopilot emotionally. The thought occurred to me that dogs have it so easy, they just love and admire, and it was important to look up and get out into the world and approach life from a more active and engaged standpoint. Something we all need to do more often than we actually do.
The January Album will be the duo’s fourth studio album and follow-up to 2021’s Calla Lily. Named for the album’s month-long recording sessions in January 2021, David describes it as, “basically an ode to the time we had time to take time.”
Adam adds:
Almost all of the songs were written in NYC during those first few months of the Covid lockdown and tumultuous police protests in the city. It was important to capture the zeitgeist but also just as important not to dwell on it in the music.
They recorded the album at Montrose Studios in Richmond, VA with Producer and bass player Bridget Kearney (Lake Street Dive), drummer John Fatum (Sarah Jarosz, Jacksonport, Bella White) and the engineering of Phil Weinrobe (Damian Rice, Feist, Big Thief). The project meant that eight people confined themselves in a farmhouse next to the studio and spent time as a community while recording.
