Misner & Smith’s “Silence Of The Sun” Finds Strength Within

Misner & Smith have released new single “Silence of the Sun”, inspired by a life-changing experience of taking part in the first Women’s March in Washington in 2017. “Silence of the Sun” is the second single to be released from Misner & Smith’s upcoming album All Is Song. Co-produced with Bruce Kaphan (American Music Club, David Byrne), All Is Song is set for release on April 12th, 2024.

Megan Smith explains:

There was something about being in the crowd that day, knowing we were part of an even bigger collective all over the world, that felt profound, and moving, and hopeful in an otherwise dark period of time for many people.

Around the same time, Misner found himself trying to write his way through a low spot in life. Misner & Smith found themselves with a song that as they say, reminded them “that the strength we need to overcome what holds us down is often right there inside us the whole time.”

Smith adds about the track:

Parts of the melody were inspired by a short instrumental piece we’d written for a theatrical production of “The Grapes of Wrath” years before. So when the tune and arrangement started taking shape and Sam was working on the lyrics, the song was already sort of steeped in a story about perseverance.

Misner & Smith have been sitting with iterations of their new album All is Song for six years now. The duo began conceiving of the project in 2017, and writing came in fits and starts from that time until the pandemic slowed all activities to a halt. Then music went through a helpful incubation period, and with the help of co-producer Bruce Kaphan and the occasional guest musician.
